What Older Anime Is Like For People Who Don’t Watch Anime

After months of showing a friend of mine who hadn’t watched any anime besides DBZ a collection of classic older anime series and films ranging from the late 80s to the early 2000s such as Akira, Neon Genesis Evangelion, After Story, Berserk and Perfect Blue, he responded by showing me a youtube video that he claimed perfectly portrayed what he thought of them. I proceeded to laugh and didn’t stop laughing for a long time after that.

The thing that made this so funny for me is that I could see exactly what he meant. The foreign language, the dated animation and the confusingly obscure endings that many classic anime are known for. I can definitely see how this clip encapsulates this confusion over both the content and the hype on which the fan base has raised these classics on because of either it’s connection with their personal analysis or some kind of nostalgia.
